BASS LAKE
Over a hundred years ago Bass Lake did not exist, instead it was a meadow surrounded by pine trees, hills, and mountains. The lake was first formed when the San Joaquin Electric Company built the first earthen dam in the Crane Valley in 1901 to divert the waters from Willow Creek and use it for hydroelectric power. The lake was originally called Crane Valley Reservoir but was changed when a small lumber company was ordered to repopulate the lake with fish after polluting it. They chose bass and thus its name was changed. Bass Lake is now owned by PG&E and still is used to generate electricity however it is also used for numerous recreational activities including fishing.
The Lake is available to people any time and day of the week for camping, activities, and fishing. Many events are hosted at the lake including a fishing derby.
